On Monday December 4th in Maykop they expect arrival of the known historical writer, publicist, researcher (particularly, of the Russian-Caucasian war of the XVIII-XIX centuries) Jacov Gordin. Natpress found out from informal sources. As they informed the purpose of the writer’s arrival from St.-Petersburg is gathering of materials for his new book about Caucasus. However, as others argue, if to consider some circumstances it would be possible to assume that the received information can be used by the visitor for some other needs.

Some of the public figures consider Gordin the person from "the Petersburg command" of the president of Russia Vladimir Putin. That, in their opinion, could be testified by not only the permanent address of the writer, but his outlook that almost completely corresponds to Putin’s one. That is creation of the strong state, certainly, with infringements of human rights and whole people, but still with the readiness to discuss measures of those infringements. And absence of compromises in relation to those who do not wish to participate in such dialogue.

However, let’s familiarize with some of the statements both of the author of the book "Caucasus: land and blood", and about him.

"I’d like to show some aspects of this terrible history that was named the Caucasian war. First, tragedy of the situation on the whole. That tragedy is that Russia could not help to win Caucasus since certain moment. Such plans for Caucasus were made from the end of the XVI century, and even earlier. But the first proved campaign is the campaign of warlord Khvorostinin at Tsar Feodor Ioanovich in 1696. As unsuccessful campaign as many other war expeditions. But from the moment of Georgia’s connection - "my destiny is determined" - as Pushkin wrote. The destiny of Russia and Caucasus was determined. They were doomed to be at war", - its author has told after the book’s release.

And here is how the literary critics estimate the writer’s work: "the problem as Gordin formulated it, consist of that Caucasus, having the limited natural resources, was not necessary to Russia in itself (unlike Crimea, the Volga region and even Siberia). But connection of Georgia to the Russian empire in 1783-1801 made a war inevitable: on the logic of its existence the empire could not leave between itself and the Christian Transcaucasia "the boiling with hatred and contempt to wrong-believers Caucasus".

"Gordin represents his position as a search of historical correctness and objectivity. It is reached with division of the Russian expansion in "the actions natural and necessary, inherent in any developing state", and "the imperial foolishness", pushed the empire to the actions excessive and in the long term not only unnecessary, but dangerous for the country".

It is clear that with such, for example, Gordin’s position (if it was his position) as unattractiveness of Caucasus for a gain, it is possible and necessary to argue. Those are the most fertile soils of Kuban, which have no equal on the planet, both the Maykop and Grozny oil resources that, alongside with Baku oil, determined the end of the Great Patriotic war, and many other things. But it should be said about it at the meeting. And his visit will show whom he plans to meet with for such conversation.
