16 years ago - on March, 15-16th, 1993 – the military operation in Abkhazian capital – Sukhumi - against the armies of the state council of Georgia was undertaken. In the unfortunate attempt of clearing Sukhumi there were lost up to 400 fighters of the Abkhazian army, about a thousand were wounded, 70 people were missing.


In the Park of Glory the ceremony of flowers and wreath-laying to the memorial dedicated to victims of the Domestic war of Abkhazian people of 1992-1993 took place.

At the ceremony there were the president of Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh, the vice-president Raul Khadzhimba, the speaker of the parliament Nugzar Ashuba, the prime minister Alexander Ankvab, the minister of Defense, the Hero of Abkhazia Merab Kishmaria, deputies, members of the government, militarimen, representatives of the public. The participants of the military operation consider that "The March operation on clearing Sukhumi failed because the Abkhazian army by then still did not have sufficient skills and experience for penetration in deep echeloned defense of the opponent.

"Despite of the shown mass heroism, the attack failed. We shall never forget our children who gave their lives for freedom of Abkhazia", - the Hero of Abkhazia, deputy Vladimir Nachach-ogly told.
