The President of Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh does not exclude a repeat of the last August events on the Caucasus.
"I think a repeat of the situation is possible. The events that happen today on the border with Georgia and South Ossetia testify to it", he said today in an interview to the “Vesti” information TV channel. According to him, "while the aggressive regime is in power, it’s difficult to speak about security, that’s why we do our best for the troops and those who work for the defense to be ready for battle".
As to the negotiations, according to Bagapsh, Abkhazia and South Ossetia carry them on only thanks to the Medvedev – Sarkozy plan. "This plan is difficult to be overestimated. Fragile peace is still preserved thanks to the signed Medvedev–Sarkozy plan", he stressed.
"Those negotiations, the Geneva process, which go on today between us, Georgia, the European Union, Russia and the United States – with their participation, is the thread by which this fragile peace still hangs.
