Haret Cheren was the last representative of the ancient Ubyhian kin, had lived on the historical land of her ancestors. She died being 83, is buried in her native aul Hadjiko

They say, human’s eyes are a mirror for a soul. Haret had pure, clear, bottomless eyes. In her open eyes were like an opened book, with all her destiny - bitter, at times - tragical, not time painfully backhand beaten - that could be easily read. Already in more advanced age, become a pensioner, she could freely "take a breath", straighten her shoulders, attaining her time of silent, quiet old age, with natives around, everything; and what had been before could become quite adequately a plot for a film in which in a hard ball it will be pressed so much miscellaneous, which for others will suffice for several lives.

She did not like to recollect her childhood and the youthful years - tears and a spasm in her throat did not allow speaking. Every time she got off, apologized, began anew, but still could not finish the painful story about what she had gone through. Some times she tried to write down her memoirs on paper – still in vain: how to express with words everything, what she had gained those years?

Grandfather of Haret - Zacheriy – was the only Ubyh survived after the Caucasian war from once the numerous kin of Cheren, lived near Dagomys. He survived after a miracle: being a boy he got to aul Hadjiko where the orphan was sheltered by Shapsugian kin Sizo. There he at once became a native person, got a profession, worked, created his own family. His son Ibraghim had seven children. Haret was born in 1927, the third child. Six years later, the family Cheren, having got in the number of the repressed people, was deported to Kazakhstan.

Till her last days of life, having gone through that terrible hell in which from her nine natives seven were lost, Haret could not understand, for what she had to suffer so much, what her mother, her father, her juvenile brothers and sisters left to the mercy of fate were guilty of?! Memoirs about how in her eyes one after the other her dearest people died, how in the eight-years age she was compelled to dig tombs to bury them with own hands alone, pursued her all life long.

She was not only steadfast in sustaining reprisals and the hardest years of the war, but also has found in herself forces to return to her native aul. She began a new life, undertook any work, and brought up two children. Haret had hairs early turned grey, she seldom smiled - her destiny never indulged that woman. But her natural pride, decency and boundless optimism were ineradicable. As well as her irrepressible thirst for living which she had got from her ancestors - freedom-loving warriors Ubyhs.
